I can’t think of a better word to describe how I’m feeling in the midst of COVID-19, social distancing and quarantine then uncertainty. Just last week (has it only been a WEEK?) I found out kids will not be going back to school until the Fall! The things that are happening in this state and country right now are unprecedented.
Every morning I wake up I wonder what will be different today? When do the changes stop and things start going back to “normal” (whatever that might be). When does my life start to look like something I recognize? The answer is no one knows. And I don’t know about you, but that’s tough for me to take.
“We (all of us) are going through a collective traumatic experience. Trauma is often thought of as “too much, too fast”… which is exactly what is happening. Of course you’re exhausted. Of course you’re afraid. Of course you’re overwhelmed. Of course you’re clinging to certainty in the midst of so much unknown. Of course you are aren’t as productive, feeling foggy, or wondering how you can possibly go through so many waves of emotions all in the same day. This all makes so much sense in the context of our circumstances. Be gentle with yourself. Have compassion with your process. Give yourself grace. You are good, no matter how you are managing this completely new experience.”

I am consciously and purposely being more patient and kind with my family…and especially with myself. I am trying to use this time as an opportunity to strengthen and refine my self care skills. I am inviting myself to slow down and step away from multi-tasking. I am enjoying the chance to have more time with my family since I am no longer commuting. I am giving myself permission to watch a bunch of movies with no guilt whatsoever!
