Somatic Therapy is a holistic, body-centered approach to therapy that recognizes how our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations are deeply interconnected. Rather than working only through conversation, somatic therapy gently invites awareness of the body’s experience, helping individuals understand how stress, trauma, and life experiences are held not just in the mind, but within the nervous system.

You can think of the body as carrying its own story. When we learn to notice physical sensations, patterns of tension, breath, and emotional responses, new pathways for healing begin to emerge. As the mind and body become more connected, many people experience greater emotional regulation, reduced anxiety and stress, increased self-awareness, and a deeper sense of grounding and safety within themselves.

Somatic therapy often integrates traditional talk therapy with mindful awareness of bodily sensations and nervous system responses. Through gentle, guided techniques, clients learn to listen to what their bodies are communicating and develop new ways of responding that support resilience, balance, and lasting well-being. This approach may draw from evidence-based modalities such as Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Lifespan Integration, EMDR, and Polyvagal-informed therapy, all working together to support healing in a calm, supportive, and individualized way.

This is a great article about how our stories are stored in our bodies.
